{"id":10137,"date":"2016-10-07T14:31:19","date_gmt":"2016-10-07T13:31:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=10137"},"modified":"2016-10-07T14:31:19","modified_gmt":"2016-10-07T13:31:19","slug":"helicopter-jobs-at-risk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=10137","title":{"rendered":"Helicopter jobs at risk"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Serious questions need to be asked about the reasons behind today\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s (October 7) announcement that large scale redundancies are on the cards at the GKN plant in Yeovil which makes airframes for helicopters.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite said the news from GKN Aerostructures that there would be large scale redundancies amongst the 300-strong workforce and, even possible closure of the site, was \u00e2\u20ac\u0098a massive blow\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 for the employees and the wider West Country economy. There is no timescale for any job losses.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The GKN workers make airframes for Italian-owned Leonardo Helicopters &#8211; formerly AgustaWestland \u00e2\u20ac\u201c which is on the same site.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite regional officer Heathcliffe Pettifer said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe understand that Leonardo wants to bring the airframe work in-house, but there are fears that this work would then be outsourced.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bWhichever way you look at it, this is a massive blow for the workforce and their families.
