{"id":10219,"date":"2016-10-14T12:53:03","date_gmt":"2016-10-14T11:53:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=10219"},"modified":"2016-10-14T14:11:00","modified_gmt":"2016-10-14T13:11:00","slug":"lloyds-review-is-counter-productive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=10219","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Counterproductive&#8221; Lloyds review"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Lloyds Bank workers are suffering under a \u00e2\u20ac\u015bcounter-productive\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 cuts agenda Unite said, after the bank announced 1,340 more job losses this week (October 14).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The redundancies will effect employees in the retail, group operations, marketing, finance, customer product and risk divisions and are part of plan announced in October 2014 to axe 9,000 jobs.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The bank, which is 9 per cent state owned, is seeking to reduce costs and maximise returns through a \u00e2\u20ac\u015bstrategic review.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 The company has cited Brexit and the rise of digital banking as the reason for the losses.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In July, Lloyds cut 3,000 jobs, and announced it will double branch closures to 400 by the end of 2017.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite national officer Rob MacGregor said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bThese announcements to staff across Lloyds Banking Group are horrific news for staff &#8211; 1,340 job losses within this taxpayer-backed institution are wholly unacceptable.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe constant flow of job cuts across Lloyds must now be halted and staff be allowed to get on with delivering the high-quality and impressive service they are so good at providing. The Lloyds management pursuit of this cuts agenda is counter-productive in their aim of a successful business.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Lloyds said the company would \u00e2\u20ac\u015buse natural turnover and redeploy people wherever possible to retain their expertise and knowledge\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 and stated that compulsory redundancies would be a \u00e2\u20ac\u015blast resort.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 The bank also said 110 new roles will be created.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>MacGregor said Unite will continue to fight for members\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 jobs.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bUnite will oppose all job losses and challenge senior management to ensure all those affected by this latest round of announcements be offered alternative suitable employment.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Plans to sell the government\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s remaining stake in the banking group to members of the public were rowed back on last week, because of perceived market volatility.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Instead the government will sell its shares to institutional investors as part of a \u00e2\u20ac\u015btrading plan\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 which will see the stake split into small tranches.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lloyds Bank workers are suffering under a \u00e2\u20ac\u015bcounter-productive\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 cuts agenda Unite said, after the bank announced 1,340 more job losses this week (October 14). &nbsp; The redundancies will effect employees in the retail, group operations, marketing, finance, customer product and risk divisions and are part of plan announced in October 2014 to axe 9,000 jobs.
