{"id":10389,"date":"2016-10-31T16:44:33","date_gmt":"2016-10-31T16:44:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=10389"},"modified":"2016-11-01T16:18:36","modified_gmt":"2016-11-01T16:18:36","slug":"establishment-stitch-up-slammed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=10389","title":{"rendered":"Establishment \u00e2\u20ac\u0098stitch up\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 slammed"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>The home secretary Amber Rudd has today rejected calls for any kind of inquiry into violent policing at the Battle of Orgreave, in a move described as an \u00e2\u20ac\u015bestablishment stitch-up.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Rudd ruled against both a statutory inquiry and an independent review into police brutality and the falsifying of statements during the biggest confrontation of the 1984 <a href=\"https:\/\/unitelive.org\/tag\/miners-strike\/\">Miners Strike<\/a>, when 6,000 officers were drafted in to contain miners picketing the <a href=\"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/tag\/orgreave\/\">Orgreave<\/a> coking plant in South Yorkshire.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In statement to the House of Commons, Rudd said there was no miscarriage of justice at Orgreave.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>She said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bDespite the forceful accounts and arguments provided by the campaigners and former miners who were present that day, about the effect that these events have had on them, ultimately there were no deaths or wrongful convictions.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bI do not believe that establishing any kind of inquiry is required to allay public concerns or for any other reason.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>However MP Andy Burnham cited new evidence of \u00e2\u20ac\u015bexcessive violence on the day itself and mass manufacture of police statements.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bThis establishment stitch-up is a purely political act.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Campaigners for an inquiry into the Battle of Orgreave say that recently released cabinet documents from the period point to collusion between the police, Tory ministers and the courts against the miners.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite organiser and chairperson of the <a href=\"http:\/\/otjc.org.uk\/\">Orgreave Truth and Justice Campaign<\/a>, Joe Rollin, said he was \u00e2\u20ac\u015bgutted\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 and \u00e2\u20ac\u015bdisgusted\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 by Rudd\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s decision but vowed to carry on the fight.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve got police officers admitting they were told to falsify evidence and video footage and photographic evidence of miners being beaten up. South Yorkshire police say they would welcome an inquiry, as does the police and crime commissioner and the Labour Party.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe only people who don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t want an inquiry are the Tories and the reason they don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t want one is that their fingerprints are all over what happened at Orgreave. They&#8217;re up to their necks in guilt.
