{"id":10512,"date":"2016-11-09T12:55:30","date_gmt":"2016-11-09T12:55:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=10512"},"modified":"2016-11-09T15:10:04","modified_gmt":"2016-11-09T15:10:04","slug":"no-real-guts-for-the-fight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=10512","title":{"rendered":"\u00e2\u20ac\u0098No real guts for the fight\u00e2\u20ac\u2122"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Thousands of steelworkers from across Europe today (November 9) joined Unite steel members in a march through Brussels to protest and demand government action to defend the industry.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Speaking from the demonstration, Unite SIMA chair Anthony Simpson told UNITElive how Unite members at Tata\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Shotton plant in North Wales have been feeling since Tata put its UK business up for sale in March earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bMorale is at an all-time low and the ongoing steel dumping issue is impacting on our ability to retain skilled workers,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 he said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>However the workforce remains proud of what they do and continues to pull together in uncertain times.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bShotton works opened in 1896 and is recognised as a world leader in its trading markets, we pride ourselves on\u00c2\u00a0delivering quality and we strive to succeed,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 he added.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite members believe there are a significant number of issues that have yet to be addressed by the UK government.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThese are not new issues and the government\u00c2\u00a0is still displaying a very disappointing approach to engaging with our foundation manufacturing Industry,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 said Simpson.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe government\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s warm words are not backed by actions and\u00c2\u00a0across all UK plants it is evident that there is no trust or confidence in them to deliver the support and level playing field they\u00c2\u00a0promised,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 he added.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Simpson went on to say that the government still has no real commitment to saving the industry.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bIt was evident during the PM\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s visit to India this week and from the fact there was no meeting with Tata\u00c2\u00a0just further reiterates the new industrial strategy title within government has no real foundations and that the government has no real guts for the fight.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He continued, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe workforce at Shotton demands the UK government takes action to support not only Shotton but all the steel plants that are still exposed to an uncertain future.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Thousands of steelworkers from across Europe today (November 9) joined Unite steel members in a march through Brussels to protest and demand government action to defend the industry. &nbsp;
