{"id":10606,"date":"2016-11-17T14:45:01","date_gmt":"2016-11-17T14:45:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=10606"},"modified":"2016-11-18T11:18:50","modified_gmt":"2016-11-18T11:18:50","slug":"hinkley-point-the-way-forward","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=10606","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Top-class workforce&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>The go-ahead for the Hinkley Point nuclear power station should pave the way for future large-scale infrastructure projects across the UK, Unite general secretary Len McCluskey (pictured) said today (November 17).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The leader of the country\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s largest union was visiting the Somerset site today, following the government\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s go-ahead for the French energy giant EDF to build the \u00c2\u014118bn project.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bHinkley Point represents the large-scale type of infrastructure project that Britain should be developing in the next decade, especially following the Brexit referendum vote,&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0 said Unite general secretary Len McCluskey.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bTo see the scale of this operation first-hand and to meet this top-class workforce who fought so hard to deliver this project for the country has been an honour &#8211; and this shows once again what unions and business can achieve when they work together.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But this project is also a reminder of the sort of economy that this country needs to take us forward in these uncertain times,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Hinkley Point\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s construction will generate thousands of jobs in the south west, including much needed apprenticeships, and will make a vital contribution to meeting the energy needs of the country.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe need to see more of this approach right across the country, delivered by a vibrant industrial strategy to renew our nation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Workers have heard a lot of warm words, but let&#8217;s see some action on investment in next week\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s autumn statement,&#8221;
