{"id":10765,"date":"2016-12-06T16:52:44","date_gmt":"2016-12-06T16:52:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=10765"},"modified":"2016-12-06T16:52:44","modified_gmt":"2016-12-06T16:52:44","slug":"dont-mess-pensions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=10765","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Don&#8217;t mess with our pensions&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Workers at AWE plc &#8211; the Atomic Weapons Establishment &#8211; who staged a successful lobby of MPs today (December 6) over their pensions\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 \u00e2\u20ac\u0098betrayal\u00e2\u20ac\u2122, have pledged to continue the fight into the new year, if necessary.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The lobby coincided with a second 24-hour strike today by members of Unite in the dispute over the threat to close the defined benefit pension scheme and substitute it with an inferior alternative.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bUnite members held an extremely successful lobby of Parliament where the point was made time and again that the government must not renege on its \u00e2\u20ac\u0098copper bottomed\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 promise to protect the pensions of these crucial defence workers,&#8221; said Unite regional secretary for the south east Jennie Formby.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bOnce again, there was the solid support from Unite members at Aldermaston and Burghfield in Berkshire, following the first 24-hour strike on November 14.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bOur members were buoyed up to keep fighting by the declaration of full support from Unite general secretary Len McCluskey, including a commitment to double strike pay,&#8221; she added.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bOur members won\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t be starved into submission by a hardline management &#8211; and the prospect of further strikes is very much on the cards when we enter 2017.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite regional officer Bob Middleton noted, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bUnite is sending out a clear message to employers across the land: \u00e2\u20ac\u0098Don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t mess with workers\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 pensions\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 \u00e2\u20ac\u201c otherwise you will have a fight on your hands.
