{"id":10956,"date":"2017-01-09T16:13:50","date_gmt":"2017-01-09T16:13:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=10956"},"modified":"2017-01-10T11:44:02","modified_gmt":"2017-01-10T11:44:02","slug":"unite-ba-membership-surge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=10956","title":{"rendered":"Unite BA membership surge"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Unite revealed today (January 9) that over 800 cabin crew from British Airways\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 \u00e2\u20ac\u0098mixed fleet\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 had joined Unite since the start of the dispute over poverty pay, taking the union\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s membership to over 2,900.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The surge in membership comes ahead of tomorrow\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s (January 10) start of a 48-hour strike by British Airways \u00e2\u20ac\u0098mixed fleet\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 cabin crew over poverty pay levels at the UK\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s national carrier.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Operating out of Heathrow on both short and long haul flights, striking members of \u00e2\u20ac\u0098mixed fleet\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 cabin crew will\u00c2\u00a0 be rallying from 7am at Unite\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Heathrow offices, 99 New Road, UB3 5BQ. Media are invited attend for pictures and interviews.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bMore and more \u00e2\u20ac\u0098mixed fleet\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 cabin crew have joined Unite as this dispute over poverty pay has gone on,&#8221; said Unite national officer Oliver Richardson.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bIncreasingly tired of delivering a first class service for poverty pay, \u00e2\u20ac\u0098mixed fleet\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 cabin crew are at breaking point over pay levels which are forcing many of them to take a second job or turn up to work unfit to fly.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bDespite British Airways walking away from meaningful talks we would urge it to listen to its \u00e2\u20ac\u0098mixed fleet\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 cabin crew who work tirelessly to serve passengers and contribute massively to the success of the airline,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bWith the parent company of British Airways forecasting annual profits in the region of \u00c2\u01412.3 billion, it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s clear that the UK\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s national carrier can pay the people who keep us safe while we fly a decent wage.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Since 2010 all British Airways new cabin crew employees join what is called \u00e2\u20ac\u0098mixed fleet\u00e2\u20ac\u2122, where despite promises that pay would be 10 per cent above the market rate, basic pay starts at just \u00c2\u014112,192 with \u00c2\u01413 an hour flying pay.
