{"id":11310,"date":"2017-01-31T17:28:38","date_gmt":"2017-01-31T17:28:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=11310"},"modified":"2017-02-01T15:13:41","modified_gmt":"2017-02-01T15:13:41","slug":"priced-out-of-justice-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=11310","title":{"rendered":"Priced out of justice"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>The government today (January 31) published a review into the introduction of Employment Tribunal (ET) fees and their impact, which showed a dramatic fall in the number of cases brought forward.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Even as the Ministry of Justice trumpeted last year\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s figures showing the highest number of people bringing forward disputes since employment tribunal fees were first introduced, the report itself highlighted concerns over the overall substantial drop in claims over the last four years that fees have been in place.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe fall in claims has been significantly greater than was estimated when fees were first introduced,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 the report read, adding that \u00e2\u20ac\u015bthere does appear to be evidence that fees have discouraged some people from bringing proceedings.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite and other trade unions have long been staunch critics of employment tribunal fees, which they argue bar workers from access to justice, particularly those who can least afford it.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The fees were first introduced in 2013 and have forced workers who for example have been sexually harassed, bullied or discriminated against in the workplace to pay up to \u00c2\u01411,200 in employment tribunal fees.
