{"id":11410,"date":"2017-02-09T16:40:37","date_gmt":"2017-02-09T16:40:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=11410"},"modified":"2017-02-10T09:44:33","modified_gmt":"2017-02-10T09:44:33","slug":"fairer-deal-bus-workers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=11410","title":{"rendered":"\u00e2\u20ac\u0098Fairer deal\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 for bus workers"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Unite general secretary Len McCluskey called on the mayor of London Sadiq Khan to build on the successful introduction of a minimum pay rate for London\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s bus drivers, by working with Unite towards a harmonised London wide pay structure.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Addressing shop stewards from across the capital at Unite\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s London bus workers conference today (February 9), McCluskey praised the mayor of London for working with Unite in taking the first step to fulfilling his promise of a fairer deal for London\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s bus workers, but said there was still more work to do to end pay inequality on London\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s buses.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The \u00e2\u20ac\u0098ground-breaking\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 package announced by the mayor before Christmas was the culmination of talks between Unite, Transport for London and London\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s bus operators.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As well as the introduction of a \u00c2\u014123,000 minimum salary for bus drivers, the package sees the introduction of a \u00e2\u20ac\u0098Licence for London\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 from April allowing drivers to move between companies taking with them their qualifications and seniority. It also sees the roll out of a Unite led equality programme ensuring the diversity of the capital is reflected in all management grades of London\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s bus companies.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Addressing shop stewards representing over 25,000 London bus drivers Unite general secretary Len McCluskey said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe package announced by the mayor of London Sadiq Khan before Christmas was testament to the tireless campaigning and determination of Unite members across the capital\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s bus garages.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bIt demonstrated what can be achieved when\u00c2\u00a0progressive politicians work well with trade\u00c2\u00a0unions\u00c2\u00a0to support positive industrial relations,&#8221; he added. &#8220;This is the first\u00c2\u00a0move\u00c2\u00a0towards ending\u00c2\u00a0the farce of\u00c2\u00a0disparity\u00c2\u00a0in wages on London\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s buses, the new minimum wage has created a floor below which wages cannot drop.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe mayor of London\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s first step in providing a fairer deal for the drivers of our capital\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s iconic red buses should not be his last.
