{"id":11520,"date":"2017-02-20T19:09:12","date_gmt":"2017-02-20T19:09:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=11520"},"modified":"2017-02-21T16:42:40","modified_gmt":"2017-02-21T16:42:40","slug":"one-common-call","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=11520","title":{"rendered":"\u00e2\u20ac\u0098One common call\u00e2\u20ac\u2122"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Unite said today (Monday February 20), that it was \u00e2\u20ac\u0098heartening\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 that MPs from across the House of Commons spoke up to back Vauxhall workers, as business secretary Greg Clark addressed MPs about the threatened\u00c2\u00a0sale of Vauxhall to the French PSA Group.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThese are very anxious days for the thousands of skilled men and women in Vauxhall, and the working class communities relying on GM\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s supply chain for their livelihoods,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 commented Unite general secretary Len McCluskey said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bSo it was helpful to hear Greg Clark update the Commons on developments today.\u00c2\u00a0It is absolutely vital that GM and Peugeot understand that the UK government is prepared to move heaven and earth to safeguard our plants.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bI repeat, the UK government must match, if not more, whatever political and financial support that the French and German governments are giving their plants and workers.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Quintessentially British brand <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bIt was also excellent to hear the business secretary acknowledge size of the UK market for GM.\u00c2\u00a0Vauxhall is a quintessentially British brand with a century-long history of building cars in this country.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThat history, this workforce and generations of customer loyalty has ensured that the UK is GM\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s single biggest European market by a significant margin \u00e2\u20ac\u201c any buyer must understand you will not be allowed to cherry pick the UK market while closing British plants.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bI urge the Prime Minister to join me in making one, common call to both Peugeot\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s CEO Carlos Tavares, and to General Motors. Quite simply it is this, support British jobs to keep your place the British market.
