{"id":11544,"date":"2017-02-22T17:41:22","date_gmt":"2017-02-22T17:41:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=11544"},"modified":"2017-02-23T10:40:15","modified_gmt":"2017-02-23T10:40:15","slug":"systematic-undermining%ef%bb%bf%ef%bb%bf","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=11544","title":{"rendered":"\u00e2\u20ac\u0098Systematic undermining\u00e2\u20ac\u2122\u010f\u00bb\u017c\u010f\u00bb\u017c"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>The NHS ethos is being further undermined in Yorkshire\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s East Riding with the \u00e2\u20ac\u0098whitewash\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 awarding of a community health services contract to a \u00e2\u20ac\u0098better profit business\u00e2\u20ac\u2122, Unite said today (February 22).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite is asking serious questions why East Riding of Yorkshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) awarded the five-year contract, worth an annual \u00c2\u014127m, to City Health Care Partnership (CHCP) when, the union understands, that the competing bid from the Humber NHS Foundation Trust was lower.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite, with 100,000 members in the health service, said that the benchmark should be \u00e2\u20ac\u0098best value for money\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 when it comes to awarding NHS contracts, which appeared not to have been followed in the case.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bI wrote to the CCG asking it to explain why it had awarded the contract to CHCP bearing in mind that it is my understanding that CCGs are supposed to provide \u00e2\u20ac\u0098best value for money\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 when awarding NHS contracts,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 said Unite regional officer Malcolm Hancock.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe Humber NHS Foundation Trust bid was of a lower cost than the CHCP one, but, nevertheless, East Riding of Yorkshire CCG awarded the contract to CHCP, thus ensuring that it went to the private sector.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bIt took six weeks for me to get a response which, in my opinion, was nothing other than a \u00e2\u20ac\u0098whitewash\u00e2\u20ac\u2122.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>A \u00e2\u20ac\u0098better profit business\u00e2\u20ac\u2122<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bCity Health Care Partnership describes itself as a \u00e2\u20ac\u0098better profit business\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 which can be interpreted as it is a business keen to make a big profit out of the NHS.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Hancock continued, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bWhat is happening is a systematic undermining of the NHS ethos.
