{"id":11699,"date":"2017-03-07T14:53:47","date_gmt":"2017-03-07T14:53:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=11699"},"modified":"2017-03-07T16:44:48","modified_gmt":"2017-03-07T16:44:48","slug":"sixty-billion-pound-man","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=11699","title":{"rendered":"\u00e2\u20ac\u0098Sixty billion pound\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 man"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Chancellor Philip Hammond will set aside \u00c2\u014160bn in preparation for a Brexit crisis in tomorrow\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Budget, but will not spend any extra cash to alleviate the meltdown of the UK\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s health services.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Signalling that the Tories\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 <a href=\"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/tag\/austerity\">austerity<\/a> drive on public services will continue, Hammond said his priority is directing funds to help mitigate any economic repercussions of leaving the EU.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The government has ignored warnings over its \u00e2\u20ac\u015bhigh risk\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 Brexit strategy <a href=\"https:\/\/unitebrexitcheck.org\/john-major-launches-blistering-attack-pms-high-risk-brexit-strategy\/\">from within it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s own party<\/a>, as well as from the opposition, industry leaders and Unite, and is set to take an aggressive stance during the negotiations.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Theresa May has vowed to leave the EU single market and customs union and is refusing to guarantee the <a href=\"https:\/\/unitebrexitcheck.org\/house-of-lords-vote-overwhelmingly-in-favour-of-guaranteeing-rights-of-eu-citizens-living-in-uk-before-negotiations-begin\/\">rights of European citizens\u00c2\u00a0living in the UK<\/a>. The Prime Minister has also threatened to lower corporation tax to poach big business from the continent if a satisfactory trade deal with the EU is not reached.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Responding to the news of Hammond\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s \u00c2\u014160bn <a href=\"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/brexit\">Brexit<\/a> crisis fund, shadow chancellor, John McDonnell, said the NHS and social care \u00e2\u20ac\u015bcrisis is here now\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 and called for some of the \u00c2\u014160bn to be spent solving it.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Despite reports that Hammond is preparing to allocate token funding for <a href=\"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/tag\/social-care\">social care<\/a>, Unite warned that the system needs additional new money from the Chancellor to avoid cuts to other local authority services.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite national officer for local government, Fiona Farmer, said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bWhat we need is genuine new money; we don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t want a futile \u00e2\u20ac\u0098robbing Peter to pay Paul\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 scenario, with other vital budgets being raided by a light-fingered chancellor seeking to assuage mounting public concern.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>However, the Chancellor has said that any fresh funding would remain off-limits, despite a recent rise in tax revenues, for nearly everything except Brexit.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He told the BBC, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bIf your bank increases your overdraft limit you don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t want to go and spend every penny in it.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bI regard my job as Chancellor as making sure that our economy is resilient, that we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve got reserves in the tank so as we embark on the journey that we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll be taking over the next couple of years we are confident that we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve got enough gas in the tank to see us through that journey.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Hammond dismissed providing extra funds for \u00e2\u20ac\u015bunder pressure\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 services and insisted that the problems facing the NHS and social care would not be solved by money alone.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Case for social care funding <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>He said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bThere is a case for taking a longer term view to fund a service that is linked to the ageing demographic of the population.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>However, shadow Chancellor, John McDonnell, told the BBC that the crisis in the\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/tag\/nhs\">NHS<\/a> and social care was too big to be ignored.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe independent estimate now on (spending needed for the) NHS and social care is between \u00c2\u01418bn and \u00c2\u014112bn.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe believe that the government now put aside, as is reported, \u00c2\u014160bn \u00e2\u20ac\u201c increased tax receipts have contributed to this as well \u00e2\u20ac\u201c for a crisis in case of Brexit.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe crisis is here now.
