Tomorrow\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s protests come as voting for industrial action gets underway over BMW\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s plans to close the pension scheme by March 31, 2017.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Brandishing placards accusing BMW bosses of \u00e2\u20ac\u0098pension robbery\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 the protests start at\u00c2\u00a0Cowley\u00c2\u00a0at\u00c2\u00a0 noon\u00c2\u00a0outside the main entrance on\u00c2\u00a0Eastern Bypass Road, Cowley OX4 6NL. Workers at\u00c2\u00a0Hams Hall\u00c2\u00a0will be protesting\u00c2\u00a0from 1pm outside the main entrance on\u00c2\u00a0Canton Lane, Coleshill B46 1GB.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The protests follow last week\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s figures from the carmaker, showing a surge in BMW Group\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s net profit of eight per cent to \u00e2\u201a\u00ac6.9bn, as well as record year for Mini sales and a six per cent rise in Roll-Royce sales.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The ballot involving workers at Cowley, Farnborough, Goodwood, Hams Hall and Swindon closes\u00c2\u00a0on Friday March 31.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bWorkers will be protesting and encouraging their colleagues to back industrial action and send a clear message to BMW bosses that they will not tolerate the firm\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s pension robbery,&#8221; said Unite national officer Tony Murphy.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe UK workforce has contributed massively to BMW Group\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s record sales and revenues and deserves better than BMW\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s broken pension promises and pleas of poverty.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe would urge BMW to recognise the vital role the world class UK workforce has played in the company\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s success\u00c2\u00a0and work with Unite to find a solution which\u00c2\u00a0safeguards car workers\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 pensions and works well for the business.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BMW workers at the home of the Mini in\u00c2\u00a0Cowley\u00c2\u00a0and the\u00c2\u00a0Hams Hall\u00c2\u00a0engine plant in the\u00c2\u00a0West Midlands\u00c2\u00a0will be protesting tomorrow (March 15) over the carmaker\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s plans to close their final salary pension scheme. &nbsp; Closure of the BMW occupational pension scheme could see some of the car firm\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s UK workforce lose up to \u00c2\u0141160,000 in retirement income.
