{"id":11816,"date":"2017-03-16T14:23:48","date_gmt":"2017-03-16T14:23:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=11816"},"modified":"2017-03-16T14:23:48","modified_gmt":"2017-03-16T14:23:48","slug":"emergency-brexit-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=11816","title":{"rendered":"Emergency Brexit conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>With now daily reminders that a \u00e2\u20ac\u0098hard\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 Brexit will prove extremely challenging for the UK\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s car manufacturing industry, Unite is building an alliance between the workforce and the industry to secure a future for the sector.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Such is the union\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s concern, Unite is calling an emergency conference to bring together representatives of its 95,000 auto members with industry leaders to press for determined government action to secure barrier-free trading access to markets in the European union.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Among those speaking at the event are the Rt Hon\u00c2\u00a0Greg Clark MP, secretary of state for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy\u00c2\u00a0and the shadow business secretary Rebecca Long-Bailey MP. They will be joined by David Bailey, professor\u00c2\u00a0of industrial strategy at Aston University and Mike Hawes,\u00c2\u00a0chief executive of the influential Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Announcing the conference today (March 16) Unite general secretary Len McCluskey said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bOn a daily basis we are encountering nervousness in the car industry as it considers its place in Brexit Britain.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bUnite is the foremost union for the UK\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s car workers.\u00c2\u00a0Our members have worked tirelessly to turn this industry around to become the world class performer it is today,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They work across more than\u00c2\u00a030 manufacturers\u00c2\u00a0building some\u00c2\u00a070 different models\u00c2\u00a0of vehicle. They are supported in this by more than\u00c2\u00a02,000 component providers employing hundreds of thousands of workers including some of the world\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s most\u00c2\u00a0skilled engineers.
