{"id":12114,"date":"2017-04-13T14:35:38","date_gmt":"2017-04-13T13:35:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=12114"},"modified":"2017-04-13T14:35:38","modified_gmt":"2017-04-13T13:35:38","slug":"ferry-strike-off","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=12114","title":{"rendered":"Ferry strike off"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Tuesday\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s 24-hour strike (April 18) that would have hit travellers using the Woolwich Ferry has been suspended, as talks in the dispute over a bullying culture make progress.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite said today (April 13) that Tuesday\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s 24-hour strike had been suspended to allow for further talks to take place on Thursday (April 20).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Depending on how those negotiations progress with Briggs Marine Contractors Ltd, which runs the service on behalf of Transport for London (TfL), a decision will then be made about whether the 24-hour strike on Friday (April 21) goes ahead.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe are pleased to say that enough progress has been made so we can suspend Tuesday\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s 24 hour strike,&#8221; said Unite regional officer Onay Kasab.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThere will be a restructuring of the management and the creation of a wider management layer, including supervisors and chargehands.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bOne of the key issues was a lack of trust and confidence in the employer \u00e2\u20ac\u201c and the new proposals go a long way in addressing this particular issue which is a big win for the solidarity shown by our members,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bHowever, other issues remain, including investigating the case of alleged sexual harassment, and health and safety and allowances.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Workers, belonging to Unite and the GMB, took two days of strike action \u00e2\u20ac\u201c January 27 and\u00c2\u00a0 February 3 \u00e2\u20ac\u201c before suspending industrial action so that talks could take place.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>About 3,500 vehicles a day use the free service across the Thames which opened in 1889, following the abolition of tolls across bridges to the west of London.
