{"id":1214,"date":"2014-09-09T17:17:40","date_gmt":"2014-09-09T16:17:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=1214"},"modified":"2014-09-09T17:17:40","modified_gmt":"2014-09-09T16:17:40","slug":"critical-role","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=1214","title":{"rendered":"Critical role"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"color: #000000;\">\n<p>Following a poignant tribute to the late RMT general secretary Bob Crow, conference debated the current issues in Britain\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s transport industry, with delegates imploring the need for transport services to be returned to the public sector.<\/p>\n<p>Unite speaker Taj Salam said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bTransport and transport workers play a critical role for people, services, businesses and society as a whole.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bUnite represents 90,000 bus workers, and, as a bus worker myself, I know first hand that the disaster of privatisation and deregulation in the bus industry.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The speaker\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s explained how privatisation has meant public transport fares have sky rocketed, while the pay, terms and conditions of transport workers have been eroded.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bPrivatisation is not the answer,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 Taj argued, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe need an integrated network of properly run services for the benefit of people, not for the profit of private businesses.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bUnite is clear \u00e2\u20ac\u201c a transport policy based on market forces cannot be in the public interest.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Following a poignant tribute to the late RMT general secretary Bob Crow, conference debated the current issues in Britain\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s transport industry, with delegates imploring the need for transport services to be returned to the public sector.
