{"id":1223,"date":"2014-09-09T17:23:28","date_gmt":"2014-09-09T16:23:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=1223"},"modified":"2014-09-09T17:23:28","modified_gmt":"2014-09-09T16:23:28","slug":"hate-crime","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=1223","title":{"rendered":"Hate crime"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">Unite delegate and TUC general council disabled workers\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 rep Sean McGovern told conference this afternoon (September 9) how the government\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s demonisation of benefit claimants and out of work citizens has led to hate crime against disabled people.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: black;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">In a motion to resist the attack on disabled people, Sean described how \u00e2\u20ac\u015bin recent years we have seen the government divide and rule, pushing working and non-working people against each other.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: black;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: black;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">The result of these misconceptions has led to a growth in prejudice against the welfare system, accused of being abused by \u00e2\u20ac\u0098scroungers\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 instead of the support system that has restored dignity and independence to the lives of people who need it.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: black;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: black;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00e2\u20ac\u015bDisabled people have been attacked from all sides. Benefits that were given to empower disabled people, and give them independence, have been slashed,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 Sean said.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: black;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: black;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00e2\u20ac\u015bAnd in the race to the bottom, discrimination in the workplace has increased.
