{"id":12339,"date":"2017-05-11T16:51:37","date_gmt":"2017-05-11T15:51:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=12339"},"modified":"2017-05-12T15:06:08","modified_gmt":"2017-05-12T14:06:08","slug":"transforming-britain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=12339","title":{"rendered":"Transforming Britain"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>A Labour government would re-nationalise the UK\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s energy industry, railways, buses and Royal Mail, the party\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s leaked draft manifesto states.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In a boost for ordinary people, Labour would also set up a new Ministry of Labour and strengthen employment and trade union rights.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This includes banning zero-hour contracts, repealing the Trade Union Act and ending the public sector pay cap.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The 43-page document, which is yet to be finalised by the Labour Party, contains pledges to provide an extra \u00c2\u01416bn a year for the NHS and \u00c2\u01411.6bn a year for social care.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Labour would also force local authorities to build 100,000 council houses a year under a new Department for Housing, private sector rent increases would be capped at inflation and the hated bedroom tax would be banned.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Other policies include a freeze on rail fares and an end to cruel benefit sanctions.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The manifesto also gives a commitment to paying off the deficit and balancing the UK\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s daily budget by the end of next Parliament.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The policies would be paid for through better taxation of large corporations and the super-rich, including raising \u00c2\u014120bn a year by reversing the Conservative\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s corporation tax cuts.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Companies \u00e2\u20ac\u015bwith high number of staff on very high pay\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 would face extra levies along with private health firms.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Individuals earning more than \u00c2\u014180,000 a year would be charged increased rates of income tax, but for 95 percent of people there would be no extra taxation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Last week, Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said the manifesto would \u00e2\u20ac\u015btransform\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 Britain.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe can transform Britain into a country that &#8211; instead of being run for the rich &#8211; is a one where everyone can lead richer lives.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re drawing a line. Three decades of privatisation \u00e2\u20ac\u201c from energy and rail to health and social care \u00e2\u20ac\u201c has made some people very rich. I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m absolutely certain that ordinary Labour voters want to see an increase in the minimum wage, the abolition of zero-hour contracts, agency workers dealt with, investment in our industries,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 McCluskey said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bTaking the railways back into public ownership is the most popular policy out there. Just ask commuters in the south east if they\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re happy.
