{"id":12495,"date":"2017-05-30T17:11:12","date_gmt":"2017-05-30T16:11:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=12495"},"modified":"2017-05-30T17:11:12","modified_gmt":"2017-05-30T16:11:12","slug":"stanlow-pensions-row","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=12495","title":{"rendered":"Stanlow pensions row"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Essar Stanlow staff at the refinery plant in Ellesmere Port are being balloted for industrial action in a row over pensions.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nUnite started balloting over 350 of its\u00c2\u00a0members in the collective bargaining groups, who are also members of the Essar final salary pension scheme today (May 30), in a consultative ballot for industrial action. The ballot will close on Friday, June 9.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Depending on the outcome, Unite will proceed to a full industrial action ballot immediately.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nThe go-ahead for the consultative ballot was supported by 100 per cent of Unite members who attended two meetings on Monday, May 22.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nThe dispute is about the company\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s decision to increase members\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 contributions to the final salary pension scheme following a pension consultation exercise.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nUnite convenor Paul Robinson said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bOur members have made it clear that the proposals put forward by Stanlow to increase the pension contribution rate for workers are unacceptable.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bStanlow has been extremely profitable for the past few years posting a profit after tax of \u00c2\u0141168m in 2016. The company can easily afford the increase in pension costs. During the pension consultation a senior finance manager admitted the increase being passed onto the employees was \u00e2\u20ac\u0098a drop in the ocean\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 for the company.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bIt is 35 years since the last industrial action at Stanlow and industrial relations have been excellent for many years.
