Constructive discussions between employers at Hinkley Point C and Unite have\u00c2\u00a0resulted in\u00c2\u00a0a temporary agreement over the payment of bonuses\u00c2\u00a0during\u00c2\u00a0the construction of\u00c2\u00a0the power station.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

All parties have agreed to take part in a\u00c2\u00a0collective differences panel that will seek\u00c2\u00a0to identify an agreeable long-term\u00c2\u00a0settlement\u00c2\u00a0of the bonus issue.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

As part of the agreement, interim bonus payments will apply until the end of August 2017 and will be linked to safe and collaborative working on site. The total bonus to be paid on this basis is as follows: working supervisor and craft grades \u00c2\u01414 an hour, skilled worker grades \u00c2\u01413 per hour and general workers \u00c2\u01412 an hour.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The interim payments were agreed by representatives of EDF Energy (the client), BYLOR (the Tier 1 contractor comprising Laing O\u00e2\u20ac\u2122Rourke and Bouygues TP), the Kier-Bam joint venture \u00e2\u20ac\u201c who are undertaking the enabling works \u00e2\u20ac\u201c and Unite.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

As part of the agreement, the previously approved\u00c2\u00a0Civil Engineering Sector Agreement (CESA) for the project, which governs pay and conditions,\u00c2\u00a0will be fully implemented\u00c2\u00a0with effect from June 1 2017, including the interim bonus arrangements.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe are proud about the \u00e2\u20ac\u0098best in class\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 nature of the overall package for the Hinkley Point C civil workforce,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 said Nigel Cann, EDF Energy\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Programme and Construction Delivery Director for Hinkley Point C.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe have created great facilities, an opportunity to develop and a very competitive reward structure,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 he added.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The collective differences panel, which will consist of a senior Unite full time official and a senior EDF Energy executive, will thoroughly examine the matter of bonuses.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe are pleased that these interim arrangements allow constructive dialogue to continue to finalise this important agreement,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 said Nigel.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u015bUnite has been a constructive\u00c2\u00a0partner in the discussions to date and I look forward to this continuing throughout the construction of the Hinkley Point C power station,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 he added.<\/p>\n

The panel will seek to identify appropriate permanent bonus arrangements\u00c2\u00a0that are agreeable to all parties\u00c2\u00a0and is scheduled to deliver its recommendations\u00c2\u00a0on productivity\/milestones bonus payments\u00c2\u00a0by August.<\/p>\n

As part of the agreement, no industrial action will be considered while these interim arrangements are in place or until the collective differences procedure has been exhausted.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u015bI am pleased that following consultation with our stewards and members we along with the various parties have been able to agree a clear path forward and that the prospect of industrial action, which is always a last resort, can be taken off the agenda in order to allow the ‘Differences Panel’ to deliberate,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 said Jerry Swain, Unite acting national officer for construction.<\/p>\n
