{"id":12637,"date":"2017-06-20T11:58:35","date_gmt":"2017-06-20T10:58:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=12637"},"modified":"2017-06-21T15:46:59","modified_gmt":"2017-06-21T14:46:59","slug":"job-threat-questions-raised","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=12637","title":{"rendered":"Job threat questions raised"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Serious questions need to be asked over why more than 500 jobs at the profitable Delphi Diesel Systems in Suffolk are under threat, Unite has said today (Tuesday June 20).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Last week, the engineering company in Sudbury announced it was entering into a consultation about the long-term future of the plant, which Unite believes, is the most profitable site in the UK of the American-owned conglomerate.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite said that predominantly rural Suffolk could not afford to lose these highly-skilled jobs which would be a hammer blow to the county\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s economy.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite met the management yesterday (Monday June 19) where the business plan was asked for. The union will be having more meetings with the company in the days and weeks ahead.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThis news is a cruel blow to the dedicated workforce and the local economy \u00e2\u20ac\u201c it is Sudbury\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s biggest employer,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 said Neal Evans, Unite regional officer.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our view is that poor business decisions were made and now we have over 500 jobs in jeopardy,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 he added.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>For example, work is being outsourced to Romania where, by the company\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s own admission, it is struggling to complete the work already shipped out due to recruitment and retention issues.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bSerious questions need to be asked why this profitable site is now under threat and what the future holds for the company\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s other sites in the UK. These questions need full answers,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 said Neal.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The site is competitive and we understand that it is making \u00c2\u01411m a month in profit.
