{"id":12754,"date":"2017-07-05T16:13:39","date_gmt":"2017-07-05T15:13:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=12754"},"modified":"2017-07-11T17:22:54","modified_gmt":"2017-07-11T16:22:54","slug":"the-world-is-watching","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=12754","title":{"rendered":"\u00e2\u20ac\u0098The world is watching\u00e2\u20ac\u2122"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Striking members of British Airways\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 mixed fleet cabin crew today (July 5) protested outside the headquarters of Qatar Airways as Unite announced it had launched legal action over the \u00e2\u20ac\u0098wet leasing\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 of Qatar Airways aircraft by British Airways.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite is challenging the government\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s decision to give the go-ahead to the \u00e2\u20ac\u0098wet lease\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 of nine Airbus aircraft by British Airways to cover a 16-day cabin crew strike, claiming it breaches European regulations.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The legal action comes amid strong support for the strike over pay and the sanctioning of striking workers which runs until 23:59 on Sunday July 16.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The use of Qatar Airways\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 aircraft and cabin crew has also led to Unite accusing British Airways of being in breach of its own corporate social responsibility policy and it not being \u00e2\u20ac\u0098worth the paper it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s written on\u00e2\u20ac\u2122.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Qatar Airways has been found in the past to be guilty of systemic workplace sex discrimination, which included female cabin crew being automatically sacked when becoming pregnant, as well as prohibiting women from being dropped off or picked up from work by a man other than their husband, father or brother.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Commenting Unite national officer Oliver Richardson said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bUnite is challenging the government\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s decision to approve British Airways use of Qatar Airways aircraft.
