{"id":12852,"date":"2017-07-25T16:07:42","date_gmt":"2017-07-25T15:07:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=12852"},"modified":"2017-07-26T12:08:39","modified_gmt":"2017-07-26T11:08:39","slug":"totally-deserved-boost","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=12852","title":{"rendered":"\u00e2\u20ac\u0098Totally deserved boost\u00e2\u20ac\u2122"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Unite hailed the skills and efficiency of BMW\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s UK workforce as the car maker today (Tuesday July 25) announced that the next generation electric Mini will be built in the UK \u00e2\u20ac\u201c at Cowley, Oxfordshire.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Welcoming the news, Unite urged the UK government to get behind the Mini workforce by urgently investing in the developing electric car industry \u00e2\u20ac\u201c primarily the charging infrastructure needed to ensure electric vehicles become a part of drivers\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 lives in the UK.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Today\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s announcement brings an end to months of uncertainty for the workers who produce a &#8216;Mini a minute&#8217; and who have helped deliver record sales for BMW.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThis announcement is a huge and totally deserved boost to a world class workforce that has endured a tough few months,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 said Unite general secretary Len McCluskey.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Around the world and for generations the Mini means made in Britain. With the electric Mini being built in Cowley the tradition continues but with the added bonus that this is one of the important innovations of tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u00e2\u20ac\u0098Fantastic news\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is fantastic news and is in no small part down to the tremendous skills and efficiency of BMW\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s UK workers and our members.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThroughout the years Mini workers have shown themselves to be leaders in innovation. It is only right that this tradition continues with the next generation electric Mini being built here in the UK.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Len McCluskey added that the government must also move into delivery mode for our manufacturing sector.
