{"id":13696,"date":"2017-10-06T14:37:49","date_gmt":"2017-10-06T13:37:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=13696"},"modified":"2017-10-06T14:37:49","modified_gmt":"2017-10-06T13:37:49","slug":"ethical-cleaning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=13696","title":{"rendered":"Ethical cleaning"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>London\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s first ethical cleaning company, which launched this week, is aiming to provide a better deal for workers in a sector known for low pay and exploitative working conditions.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Clean for Good pays its workers the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.livingwage.org.uk\/calculation\">London living wage<\/a> of \u00c2\u01419.75 per hour and employs them on contracts that provide guaranteed hours, paid leave and other rights.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe have no <a href=\"unitelive.org\/tag\/zero-hours\">zero-hours<\/a> contracts although we offer flexible hours for employees who want to combine work with study or family responsibilities,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 <a href=\"http:\/\/cleanforgood.co.uk\">Clean for Good<\/a> business manager Catherine Pearson told the Guardian.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe offer staff paid holiday and sick leave, an opt-in pension and health and safety training. We use ethical products, keep our carbon footprint to a minimum and offer our clients transparency.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Pearson explained, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bOften contracts (in the cleaning sector) are sub-contracted, sometimes more than once, and it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s unclear to clients how much the cleaner actually gets for their work.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The church-backed firm currently has 10 staff and eight clients but plans to expand.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Pearson said the firm is aiming to turnover at least \u00c2\u0141600,000 over the next two years. Staff may also receive bonuses, she added.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Clean for Good was established by the central London church St Andrews-by-the-Wardrobe as a way to help low-paid workers in the area.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bClean for Good stands out from the crowd as a company that pays its staff the proper London living wage as well as one that doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t shirk its obligations to provide staff with guaranteed hours and full working rights,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 said Unite assistant general secretary Steve Turner.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe fact that this is unusual reflects the dire state of many people\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s working conditions in the UK.
