{"id":14114,"date":"2017-12-08T14:36:54","date_gmt":"2017-12-08T14:36:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=14114"},"modified":"2017-12-08T16:00:19","modified_gmt":"2017-12-08T16:00:19","slug":"tory-beano-mining-museum-cancelled","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=14114","title":{"rendered":"Mass protest at Tory outrage result"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Provocative plans to hold a Tory party celebration at the National Coal Mining Museum have been cancelled following a mass outcry.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Shameless Dewsbury County Conservative Association planned to hold their annual dinner at the former Wakefield coal mine in March, but the event has now been cancelled after <a href=\"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/pits-tory-beano-faces-mass-protest\/\">protests were threatened<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The proposed dinner \u00e2\u20ac\u201c which was described as \u00e2\u20ac\u015b<a href=\"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/dancing-on-our-grave-tory-beano-outrage\/\">dancing on the grave of our industry<\/a>\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 by a former miner \u00e2\u20ac\u201c would have taken place just two days after the anniversary of the return to work following the end of the 1984\/85 miners\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 strike.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) said Dewsbury County Conservative Association were \u00e2\u20ac\u015brubbing salt in the wounds\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 of mining communities, whose way of life had been wrecked by the Tories.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/otjc.org.uk\">Orgreave Truth and Justice Campaign<\/a> (OTJC) chair Jo Rollin said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe OTJC felt we had no option but to organise opposition and a peaceful picket at the planned event and are relieved that we no longer need to spend our time on this.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe can now concentrate on getting truth and justice for the miners brutalised at <a href=\"unitelive.org\/tag\/orgreave\">Orgreave<\/a> without having to deal with other upsetting and inconsiderate distractions.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The decision to cancel the dinner was taken by the museum\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s catering contractor.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Asparagus Green Catering pulled out \u00e2\u20ac\u015bin light of complaints and comments that have been made by telephone, e-mail and social media platforms\u00e2\u20ac\u0165.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The move was backed by the museum\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s trustees who said \u00e2\u20ac\u015bproposed actions by protestors to organise pickets\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 meant the dinner could not go ahead.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite Community Yorkshire co-ordinator John Coan said the union was pleased the dinner had been cancelled.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bIt would have been incredibly insensitive to hold such an event at the heart of one of our former coal mining communities.
