{"id":14208,"date":"2017-12-19T15:13:03","date_gmt":"2017-12-19T15:13:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=14208"},"modified":"2017-12-19T15:13:03","modified_gmt":"2017-12-19T15:13:03","slug":"kind-hearted-cabbies-shell-kids","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=14208","title":{"rendered":"Kind-hearted cabbies shell out for kids"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0098Tis the season for giving \u00e2\u20ac\u201c and Nottingham\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s big-hearted hackney cab drivers are donating \u00c2\u01412,750 to the children\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s ward at the city\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Queen\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Medical Centre (QMC) tomorrow (Wednesday December 20).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>More than 500 licensed hackney carriage drivers \u00e2\u20ac\u201c who are represented in a branch of Unite \u00e2\u20ac\u201c have come together for the first time to donate money to the hospital\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Big Appeal for highly specialised diagnostic equipment that accurately identifies illness and disease at an earlier stage.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bOur drivers are local people and we are proud to serve our city,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 said Unite branch secretary Kaleem Ashraf.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThis time of year is about giving, doing our bit and showing that Nottingham is together. It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a new initiative from the branch.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bHackney cabs are a vital part of the city\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s economy both day and night &#8211; keeping the city moving 24\/7. Now Nottingham&#8217;s hackney carriage drivers in association with Unite have decided they would like to give a little back to their local community.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe cabbies are committed to making further contributions to other local charities in the future, while working closely in conjunction with\u00c2\u00a0 the city council, as to the best way to direct any fund raising,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 he added.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite branch chairman Basheer Latif echoed Ashraf\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s sentiments. \u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe all love Nottingham, and we all want what\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s best for this city,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 Latif said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bNottingham remains an inclusive place where all types of people and businesses can continue to prosper in the years to come. It is always nice to put something back and especially at this special time of year.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bNot everyone will be fortunate enough to spend time at home with their family and this is just something we wanted to do to make life a little easier for others,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 concluded Latif.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Nottingham currently has 411 hackney cabs and over 500 drivers in the city.
