{"id":14765,"date":"2018-03-09T15:03:26","date_gmt":"2018-03-09T15:03:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=14765"},"modified":"2020-11-12T12:59:06","modified_gmt":"2020-11-12T12:59:06","slug":"luton-airport-pay-row","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=14765","title":{"rendered":"Luton Airport pay row"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Workers at London Luton Airport are up in arms over a pay offer which is almost half the rate of inflation despite sky high increases for the bosses and record passenger numbers.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The latest financial statements showed that the directors remuneration increased 59 per cent and the highest paid director received an increase of 48 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Following months of negotiations the company have offered to increase workers\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 pay by just 2.15 per cent at a time when the Retail Price Index (RPI) is up by 4 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Furious workers are warning that unless the company makes a substantial improvement, an industrial action ballot could get underway.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There are 750 people employed by LLA, working in areas including security staff, engineers, fire services, finance, administration and passenger services.\u00c2\u00a0 The workforce believe they deserve a fairer share of the profits they helped deliver.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Sky-high profits<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Luton Airport has delivered an increase in turnover of 10.8 per cent to \u00c2\u0141163m; an increase in pre-tax profits to \u00c2\u014144m; and a rise in profit generated per employee of 9.6 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The airport welcomed 15.8 million passengers in 2017, marking an 8.6 per cent increase compared with the previous year and making 2017 the airport\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s busiest year on record.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe workers at Luton airport are justifiably up in arms,&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0 said Unite regional officer Jeff Hodge. &#8220;They are being offered a pay cut in real terms when the airport\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s bosses have enriched themselves with sky high pay increases.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bTurnover is up, company profits are up and passenger numbers are up but the workers on the front line are being given a pay cut. London Luton Airport must now recognise the contribution the workforce make to the success of the business.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite representatives at Luton have used the union\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s powerful online tool to support their campaign for a fair share of company profits.
