{"id":14832,"date":"2018-03-19T17:39:09","date_gmt":"2018-03-19T17:39:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=14832"},"modified":"2020-11-12T12:59:06","modified_gmt":"2020-11-12T12:59:06","slug":"rising-anger","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=14832","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Rising anger&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Unite said it had \u00e2\u20ac\u0098no confidence\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 in Melrose\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s vision or strategy for GKN after the firm refused to give guarantees on jobs, skills and investment today (March 19).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In a full and frank exchange with Melrose bosses this morning, Unite representatives pressed for concrete guarantees on levels of investment and where it would be targeted should Melrose succeed with its hostile takeover of GKN.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Today\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s meeting followed recent warnings from GKN\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s biggest customer, Airbus that it would be \u00e2\u20ac\u0098practically impossible\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 for it to give GKN any new work should Melrose succeed with its debt-laden takeover bid because of the uncertainty generated by its short-term approach.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Speaking after the meeting Unite assistant general secretary for manufacturing Tony Burke said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bUnite remains of the view that Melrose\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s takeover would be bad for UK jobs, investment and GKN customers.
