{"id":14993,"date":"2018-04-16T16:50:19","date_gmt":"2018-04-16T15:50:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=14993"},"modified":"2020-11-12T12:59:03","modified_gmt":"2020-11-12T12:59:03","slug":"thurrock-bin-strikes-off","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=14993","title":{"rendered":"Thurrock bin strikes off"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Unite members working in Thurrock council\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s waste collection service have agreed to end the current threat of strike action; but tensions remain in the service and the threat of strikes could be revisited if the council reneges on its promises, Unite warned today (April 16).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Following the decision to suspend the initial strike action (on April 6) Thurrock council has now made a series of concessions in writing. As a result Unite\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s members have agreed to call off their remaining planned strikes.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The 72 hour strike beginning at\u00c2\u00a0just past midnight on Tuesday, May 1 and the 24 hour strikes due to begin on May\u00c2\u00a016, 23 and 30 have now been formally called off.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The council has confirmed that pictures from the new \u00e2\u20ac\u0098big brother\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 style cameras with live streaming to be fitted on Thurrock\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s refuse vehicles can\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t be viewed by managers at their desks and phones and will only be normally viewed by the council\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s data protection officer. Any requests to view the footage will have to be in writing and that information will be shared with Unite.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The council also said that there\u00c2\u00a0will be no cuts to the rounds as it accepted\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0that there are major problems with the service.
