{"id":15146,"date":"2018-05-02T16:54:18","date_gmt":"2018-05-02T15:54:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=15146"},"modified":"2020-11-12T12:58:46","modified_gmt":"2020-11-12T12:58:46","slug":"staffordshire-cuts-health-visitors-school-nurses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=15146","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Swingeing&#8217; Staffordshire cuts"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Services for safeguarding vulnerable children and for those suffering from domestic abuse are under serious threat due to the continuing swingeing cuts by Tory-controlled Staffordshire county council.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite said that clinics and children\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s centres in Staffordshire had already closed\u00e2\u20ac\u201c and that nearly 40 job losses of health visitors and school nurses were on the cards, following cuts to health visiting and family nurse services last year.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The county council is cutting a further \u00c2\u01412.5m from the 0-19 years\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 service for the financial year, starting April 2018.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThese cruel cuts are putting vital services, such as maternal and child mental health, child protection and domestic abuse, under even more severe strain,&#8221; said Unite regional officer Frank Keogh.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bRecently implemented cuts have already hit hard in Staffordshire with the loss of children\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s centres and support for breastfeeding mothers,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bNow, like a shark that has tasted blood, councillors are coming back to take another \u00c2\u01412.5 million chunk from the already much reduced 0-19 years\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 budget.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThis second financial hit will further reduce the numbers of health visitors and school nurses and therefore leave our children and families vulnerable.
