{"id":15281,"date":"2018-05-23T16:52:09","date_gmt":"2018-05-23T15:52:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=15281"},"modified":"2020-11-12T12:58:44","modified_gmt":"2020-11-12T12:58:44","slug":"luton-airport-strike-back-on","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=15281","title":{"rendered":"Luton Airport strike back on"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Baggage handlers at Luton Airport have voted to reject a new pay offer from their employer Menzies Aviation which workers say fails to recognise their hard work and the rising cost of living.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite has agreed to attend further negotiations with Menzies tomorrow (May 24).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Strike action by workers employed by Menzies Aviation is due to begin at 3am Saturday, May 26 until 2pm on Sunday, May 27.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bUnite has agreed to attend further negotiations with Menzies on\u00c2\u00a0Thursday (May 24)\u00c2\u00a0but in order to resolve this dispute Menzies must recognise workers\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 hard-work and the rising cost of living,&#8221; said Unite regional officer Jeff Hodge.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bIn April passenger numbers grew to 1.3 million people at Luton,&#8221; he added.&#8221;That\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s 15 months in a row of over a million passengers passing through the airport. Baggage handlers at Luton Airport deserve a decent rate of pay for their contribution to the business.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>79 per cent of workers that took part in the ballot rejected the new pay offer from Menzies.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Workers including firefighters and security guards employed by London Luton Airport postponed their planned industrial action which was due to commence on Friday, May 25.
