{"id":15790,"date":"2018-07-25T09:00:55","date_gmt":"2018-07-25T08:00:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=15790"},"modified":"2020-11-12T12:58:35","modified_gmt":"2020-11-12T12:58:35","slug":"public-sector-pay-pain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=15790","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Flagging morale&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>This week&#8217;s announcements on public sector pay by government ministers will do little to lift flagging morale or ease the \u00e2\u20ac\u0098pay pain\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 endured for the last eight years by public sector workers,\u00c2\u00a0 Unite said on Tuesday (July 24).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite represents workers affected by\u00c2\u00a0Tuesday&#8217;s public sector pay announcements including the prison and probation service, as well as doctors through Doctors in Unite (DiU).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bPrison and probation staff have seen their pay packets shrink by thousands of pounds in real terms while their jobs have become harder and in some case nigh on impossible because of Tory cuts and austerity,&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0said\u00c2\u00a0Unite national officer Jim Kennedy.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bToday\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s pay announcement will not cure the ills of this Tory government and will do nothing to reverse the eight years of pay pain that hardworking public sector workers have had to endure under the Tories.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe government needs to provide additional money for a decent pay rise for all public sector workers and not expect departments to fund it out of their austerity ravaged budgets at the expense of public services.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite national officer for health Sarah Carpenter added, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bThere is huge anger among doctors in England that yet another below inflation pay rise has been offered despite the new secretary for state for health and social care pledging a fresh start. Today\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s announcement will do little to boost flagging morale.
