{"id":15818,"date":"2018-07-26T12:01:22","date_gmt":"2018-07-26T11:01:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=15818"},"modified":"2020-11-12T12:58:35","modified_gmt":"2020-11-12T12:58:35","slug":"inadequate-pay-offer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=15818","title":{"rendered":"\u00e2\u20ac\u0098Inadequate\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 pay offer"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Workers at a leading crane manufacturer in Sunderland will be striking for two days next month in a dispute over an \u00e2\u20ac\u0098inadequate\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 pay offer.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The 28 skilled crane assemblers at Liebherr Sunderland Works will strike from 7:59pm on Thursday, August 9 until 11:59pm on Friday, August 10. The action will be repeated on 16\/17 August. The workers have already started an overtime ban.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite will be coordinating the industrial action with the GMB union which also has members at the Deptford Terrace site.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On its website, the global Liebherr Group boasts the highest turnover in the group\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s history which stretches back to 1949 \u00e2\u20ac\u201c a total of \u00e2\u201a\u00ac9,845 million (almost \u00e2\u201a\u00ac10 billion).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s members voted by 79 per cent for strike action after rejecting the company\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s offer of three per cent, a \u00c2\u0141150 lump sum and an extra day off over the Christmas period for the year starting January 2018.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bWhile the company\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s offer may appear reasonable, it has to be seen in context of past pay deals,&#8221; said Unite regional officer Mark Sanderson.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bIn recent years, our members have accepted below inflation pay awards as the management said that business was not so good, but that when things picked up, there would be higher pay rises.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bOur very experienced members, who have contributed to the highest turnover in the Liebherr Group\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s history, now want the firm to come good on its past promises and offer a generous pay rise to make\u00c2\u00a0 up for the years of below inflation increases.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bOur members take great pride in the high quality cranes they assemble for the oil and maritime industries, but feel that \u00e2\u20ac\u0098enough is enough\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 and that the current offer is inadequate.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bUnite\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s door is open 24\/7 for genuine pay talks with the management before next month\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s strike action.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Workers at a leading crane manufacturer in Sunderland will be striking for two days next month in a dispute over an \u00e2\u20ac\u0098inadequate\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 pay offer. &nbsp; The 28 skilled crane assemblers at Liebherr Sunderland Works will strike from 7:59pm on Thursday, August 9 until 11:59pm on Friday, August 10.
