{"id":15920,"date":"2018-08-09T16:11:28","date_gmt":"2018-08-09T15:11:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=15920"},"modified":"2020-11-12T12:58:18","modified_gmt":"2020-11-12T12:58:18","slug":"unite-sainsburys-talks-continue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=15920","title":{"rendered":"Sainsbury&#8217;s talks continue"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Unite held three hours of talks with Sainsbury&#8217;s management yesterday (August 8) when, Unite national officer for the food industry Joe Clarke said, the union &#8220;made robust representations on behalf of those members who will be adversely affected by the introduction of the new contract in September.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bWhile we recognise that the majority of workers will be better off under the new contracts, there would be a substantial number of employees, mainly longer serving and older workers, who will be worse off,&#8221; Clarke noted.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe strongly made the argument that those workers adversely affected by the new contract, who do not wish to accept it, can stay on their existing terms without the draconian threat of the sack.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bSainsbury\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s will consider the case the union had vigorously made and give its response to us within the next two weeks.,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite has already taken legal steps to protect its 11,000 members who have been told by Sainsbury\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s they have to sign the new contracts by 23 September \u00e2\u20ac\u201c or face the sack.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite said the dispute stems from the firm\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s proposal to increase pay to \u00c2\u01419.20 an hour for workers at Sainsbury\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s 1,400 stores from September, which would be eroded by \u00e2\u20ac\u0098strings\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 such as removing premium pay for Sunday working.
