{"id":15969,"date":"2018-08-20T12:19:16","date_gmt":"2018-08-20T11:19:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=15969"},"modified":"2020-11-12T12:58:17","modified_gmt":"2020-11-12T12:58:17","slug":"unite-nhs-scotland-vote-pay-offer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=15969","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Well deserved&#8217; pay rise"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Unite NHS members in Scotland have voted to accept a pay offer put to them July.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A consultative ballot resulted in 71 per cent of members voting to accept the three year pay deal, effective from April 1 2018.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>NHS workers in England voted to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unitetheunion.org\/news\/unite-health-members-vote-overwhelmingly-in-favour-of-the-nhs-pay-deal\/\">accept<\/a> a similar deal earlier in the summer, following an <a href=\"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/at-long-last-nhs-pay-deal-start-on-road-to-true-pay-justice\/\">offer<\/a> from the UK government made after months of negotiations with health unions, including Unite, to end the NHS pay freeze.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The deal will see workers earning less than \u00c2\u014180,000 be at least 9 per cent better off at the end of the third year, while those earning above \u00c2\u014180,000 will receive a flat rate of \u00c2\u01411,600 each year.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite regional officer for Scotland James O\u00e2\u20ac\u2122Connell said the complex pay deal delivered a \u00e2\u20ac\u015bwell deserved\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 pay increase for members.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bWhile we recognise the value of the offer to our members following years of austerity and pay restraint, we are not complacent.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bIt is the start of a process of trying to make up for the years our members have struggled within a rigid pay policy. It is not right that they have had to wait several years to have their contribution properly recognised.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>O\u00e2\u20ac\u2122Connell said issues around pay were linked to staff shortages in the <a href=\"unitelive.org\/tag\/nhs\">health service<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe health service has a recruitment crisis.
