{"id":15987,"date":"2018-08-22T15:58:28","date_gmt":"2018-08-22T14:58:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=15987"},"modified":"2020-11-12T12:58:17","modified_gmt":"2020-11-12T12:58:17","slug":"average-pay-flatlining-wages","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=15987","title":{"rendered":"Flatlining wages"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Average wages are still \u00c2\u014113 a week lower than 10 years ago, according to new analysis from an economic think tank.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Research from the Resolution Foundation shows average earnings in real terms are still \u00c2\u014113 a week less than in 2008.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In a troubling <a href=\"https:\/\/www.resolutionfoundation.org\/media\/press-releases\/jobs-for-jams-poorest-third-of-households-account-for-over-half-of-all-jobs-growth-since-the-crisis\/\">analysis<\/a> of the labour market, the foundation said that with 800,000 people employed on zero-hour contracts insecure work is still \u00e2\u20ac\u015bwidespread\u00e2\u20ac\u0165.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"unitelive.org\/tag\/resolution-foundation\">Resolution Foundation<\/a> senior economic analyst Stephen Clarke said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bWhile employment is at a record high, Britain is still some way off full employment and too much work remains low paid and insecure.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Steps to provide advance notice of shifts and a right to a regular contract for those working regular hours on a zero hour contract would also help those in work who have precious little job security.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Clarke also called for more support for people with <a href=\"unitelive.org\/tag\/disabled\">disabilities<\/a> and ill-health to access employment.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bPolicies to achieve this could include a new right to return to work after a period of ill-health.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;With fewer than half of people with a disability or ill-health currently in work, targeted support for these groups holds the key to achieving further employment progress.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>TUC general secretary Frances O\u00e2\u20ac\u2122Grady said the government was ignoring flatlining <a href=\"unitelive.org\/tag\/wages\">wages<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>She said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bIt&#8217;s taking wages longer to recover from this crash than it did after the Great Depression.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Government is turning a blind eye to Britain&#8217;s living standards crisis.
