Unite is working with businesses like BMW to mitigate the worst effects of the Tories\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 Brexit chaos, but working people are losing out as the uncertainty bites and carmakers stall on investment plans.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile on Monday, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) told 2,000 staff as its Castle Bromwich site in the West Midlands that they will be working a three day week until Christmas.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The move came after repeated warnings that the government\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s shambolic handling of Brexit was impeding the firm\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s prospects and just hours after Tory MP Bernard Jenkins accused JLR chief executive Ralf Speth of \u00e2\u20ac\u015b<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/politics\/2018\/sep\/17\/jaguar-land-rover-boss-scaremongering-on-no-deal-brexit-says-bernard-jenkin-tory\">scaremongering<\/a>\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 over his most recent intervention on the dangers of crashing out the EU.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Wake up and smell the shambles <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Unite senior convenor at JLR Castle Bromwich Mick Livingstone said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bRather than Tory MPs &#8211; who have no idea what they are talking about &#8211; sniping from the sidelines, they need to wake up and recognise the shambles they have created and the damage they are doing to the UK auto industry.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The decisions by BMW and JLR came as Honda warned that a no deal scenario would cost the company \u00e2\u20ac\u015btens of millions of pounds\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 and harm its competitiveness on the continent.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Adding to the chorus of alarms over the impact of a hard Brexit, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders said today that the cost of an EU car in the UK could increase by \u00c2\u01411,500, while the cost of a UK car in the EU could rise by as much as \u00c2\u01412,700.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>National staff chairman of Unite at <a href=\"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/tag\/ford\">Ford<\/a> Les McDonald, who works at Ford\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s technical research centre at Dunton, Bedfordshire, echoed the concerns of workers from the across the automotive sector.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bAll of us are wondering if we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re going to have a job in the future. There\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s so much insecurity now and Brexit hasn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t even happened yet. The fact of the matter is that people could lose their jobs,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 explained Dawson.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bEveryone in the industry is worried about it.
