{"id":16355,"date":"2018-09-25T17:33:46","date_gmt":"2018-09-25T16:33:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=16355"},"modified":"2020-11-12T12:58:12","modified_gmt":"2020-11-12T12:58:12","slug":"people-power-gets-govt-to-step-in-at-last","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=16355","title":{"rendered":"Liverpool Royal result"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>The government has announced it will step in to get the Royal Liverpool Hospital built following a delay in construction caused by the collapse of <a href=\"unitelive.org\/tag\/carillion\">Carillion<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite, which along with other health campaigners has maintained pressure on the government to complete the hospital, praised \u00e2\u20ac\u015bpeople power\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 for the result.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>After months of inaction the government has been forced to cancel Carillion\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s <a href=\"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/tag\/pfi\/\">private finance initiative<\/a> contract to build the hospital and bail out the \u00c2\u0141335m project, which includes rectifying major <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-england-merseyside-45497925\">structural issues<\/a> on the work already completed by Carillion.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u00e2\u20ac\u0098Belated decision\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Unite assistant general secretary Gail Cartmail, who attended a <a href=\"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/govt-must-get-carillion-abandoned-hospital-built-for-liverpool-asap\/\">protest<\/a> outside of the hospital only yesterday, said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe belated decision by the government to step in to complete the build of the Royal Liverpool hospital would not have happened without the pressure of unions, Labour politicians and the people of Liverpool.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe fact that it has taken so long for the government to step in, is in itself a scandal.
