Setting up subsidiaries has stoked fears over possible \u00e2\u20ac\u0098Carillion-style\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 meltdowns that could lead to job losses and the \u00e2\u20ac\u0098salami-slicing\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 of service provision.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-16386\" src=\"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/WOS-york-hospital2-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"WOS york hospital2\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/WOS-york-hospital2-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/WOS-york-hospital2-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/WOS-york-hospital2-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Evidence has shown that when staff are transferred to wholly owned subsidiaries, new employees are not given access to the NHS pension scheme and are offered inferior Agenda for Change terms and conditions. Striking workers at both trusts have garnered support from across their communities, including from Unite Community branches, and beyond. Unite delegate Simon O&#8217;Keefe (pictured below) <a href=\"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/labour-simon-okeefe-nhs-privatisation\/\">warned conference<\/a> about the dangers of wholly owned subsidiaries creeping into the NHS.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe are told that this is not privatisation because they are still owned by the NHS,&#8221; he said. &#8220;That is simply not true. These companies are transferring hard working NHS staff and assets out of the public sector, out of national bargaining, and out of the NHS. Like Carillon there is no protection from failure and no accountability.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-16375\" src=\"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/labour-simon-okeefe-684x1024.jpg\" alt=\"labour simon okeefe\" width=\"640\" height=\"958\" srcset=\"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/labour-simon-okeefe-684x1024.jpg 684w, https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/labour-simon-okeefe-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/labour-simon-okeefe-768x1150.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Labour&#8217;s shadow health and social care secretary Jon Ashworth\u00c2\u00a0 joined NHS campaigners and South Thanet PPC\u00c2\u00a0Rebecca Gordon-Nesbitt (pictured below) as he pledged his support for the striking workers.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In his address to conference, Ashworth said,\u00c2\u00a0\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe next\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/labour-simon-okeefe-nhs-privatisation\/unitelive.org\/tag\/labour\">Labour<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0government will end privatisation, will end PFI, we will repeal the Health and Social Care Act and yes will bring forward reinstatement legislation as we begin the process of renationalising our National Health Service.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bAnd we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll block transfers of hospital staff to subsidiary companies too.
