Unite members from TGI Fridays in Milton Keynes, Covent Garden and Stratford City will mark their eighth 24-hour walkout tomorrow (October 4) by joining with striking workers from McDonald\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s and Wetherspoons for a historic rally in London\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Leicester Square to demand a better deal for hospitality workers.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The rally will take place in Leicester Square WC2H from 11am-12pm.\u00c2\u00a0Speakers will include shadow chancellor John McDonnell and TUC general secretary Frances O\u00e2\u20ac\u2122Grady.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The strikers, who have come together to call for \u00c2\u014110 an hour and union rights, will be joined by fast food and gig economy workers from across the UK and abroad in taking action tomorrow in a mass show of solidarity.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The TGI Fridays strike is over a change in tips policy which has left waiting staff \u00c2\u0141250 a month worse off and the company\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s continued refusal to hear their grievances.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Speaking ahead of the rally Unite national officer Rhys McCarthy said,\u00c2\u00a0\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThis is an incredibly exciting time to be part of the trade union movement. Hospitality workers are finding their voice and their power in the union.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThese workers have had enough of low pay and insecure work,” he added.\u00c2\u00a0“They will not stand by and let their bosses pocket their tips nor cheat them out of money they\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re rightfully owed.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThey are demanding not only respect but better pay and union rights, because they know that by standing together they can win. These young workers are leading a growing movement against low pay and insecure work in the hospitality sector and across the gig economy. Unite stands right by their side.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u015bOnly this week, Unite\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s \u00e2\u20ac\u0098fair tips\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 campaign<\/a> won an important promise from this government to stop employers taking a cut of workers\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 tips,” McCarthy went on to say.\u00c2\u00a0“We will hold the government to that pledge.<\/p>\n
