{"id":16594,"date":"2018-10-29T15:58:57","date_gmt":"2018-10-29T15:58:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=16594"},"modified":"2020-11-12T12:57:55","modified_gmt":"2020-11-12T12:57:55","slug":"unite-ups-wee-problem-toilets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=16594","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Wee problem&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Global logistics giant UPS could face industrial action in the new year in the escalating row over denying their drivers night-time toilet facilities at its own depots.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite the union said that about 350 HGV drivers were not allowed to use toilets at some of UPS\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 50 depots if they turn up with deliveries during the night.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The union dismissed UPS bosses\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 alleged security concerns for the nocturnal ban as \u00e2\u20ac\u0098spurious and mean-spirited\u00e2\u20ac\u2122, as drivers then have to search out alternative facilities in the dead of night.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite national officer for road transport and logistics Matt Draper said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bFor the last year Unite has been pressing the UPS management to show a little humanity and make toilets available for the drivers who arrive at their depots late at night.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bUPS is a global logistics player, operating in some 200 countries, and should be more than able to sort out this wee problem before it causes big reputational damage.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThis nocturnal ban affects about 350 \u00e2\u20ac\u0098feeder\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 drivers who deliver parcels and other packages between UPS depots in the UK, as well as the agency drivers UPS use at night time,&#8221; he added. &#8220;During the day, there is no problem as the toilets are open.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A year ago, Unite won a long\u00e2\u20ac\u201crunning campaign for the right of delivery drivers to use an employer\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s toilets while conducting deliveries.
