It was so severe it was classified as a \u00e2\u20ac\u0098red event\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 resulting in fracking being temporarily suspended.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The fresh concerns about fracking safety come at a time when the government is considering its response to a consultation on fracking, which could result in local councillors being excluded from deciding whether fracking can go ahead in their local area.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The energy minister Clare Perry MP has also suggested that as the industry \u00e2\u20ac\u0098matures\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 the requirement to stop drilling when significant tremors occur, could be relaxed.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There is growing concern about the government\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s fracking policy and there will be a Westminster Hall debate tomorrow afternoon (October 31) about the government\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s proposals.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite assistant general secretary Gail Cartmail said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe continued tremors being caused by fracking in Lancashire must be terrifying for people living locally.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe government has put Quadrilla\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s financial interests above the safety concerns of local residents.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe fact that there are continual tremors underlines that fracking is not safe and it needs to be halted immediately.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bProposals that councillors will be barred from deciding if fracking can occur in their area are a direct attack on local democracy.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bSuggestions by a Conservative minister that mini earthquakes can be ignored in future, demonstrates that the government is pandering to developers and ignoring legitimate fears and concerns.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bRecent history demonstrates that ignoring community concerns can have tragic consequences.
