{"id":16696,"date":"2018-11-13T16:54:45","date_gmt":"2018-11-13T16:54:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=16696"},"modified":"2020-11-12T12:57:53","modified_gmt":"2020-11-12T12:57:53","slug":"bristol-wage-dispute-panto-ticket","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=16696","title":{"rendered":"Pay not panto tickets"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite the union, which represents hundreds of members at Bristol Waste, has described revelations that the company has spent \u00c2\u014125,000 on pantomime tickets as \u00e2\u20ac\u015bresembling \u00e2\u20ac\u015ba bribe\u00e2\u20ac\u0165, as the union is currently engaged in a pay dispute with the company.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Bristol Waste is a wholly owned subsidiary of Bristol council and employs around 600 people to undertake refuse collection, street cleaning and recycling in the city.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The company is highly profitable &#8212; its turnover increased from \u00c2\u014115m in 2016 to \u00c2\u014128m in 2017, with its pre-tax profits rising from \u00c2\u01412m to \u00c2\u01413m during this time.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Despite the company making profits worth \u00c2\u01415,600 per employee, it has refused to make a decent pay offer. The company initially offered a 1.5 per cent increase which was then increased to 2 per cent. Unite is seeking an increase in line with the retail price index (RPI) which currently stands at 3.3 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Rather than increase the pay offer it has emerged that Bristol Waste has purchased 600 tickets for its staff to see Cinderella at the Bristol Hippodrome.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite South West regional secretary Steve Preddy said,\u00e2\u20ac\u015bBy bulk buying pantomime tickets it looks like Bristol Waste is trying to bribe our members to accept a below inflation pay increase.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe two per cent pay offer currently on offer is in effect a real terms pay cut.
