{"id":1684,"date":"2014-10-01T15:26:49","date_gmt":"2014-10-01T14:26:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=1684"},"modified":"2014-10-01T15:26:49","modified_gmt":"2014-10-01T14:26:49","slug":"fee-hike-nurses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=1684","title":{"rendered":"Fee hike for nurses"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Britain\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s nurses face further financial hardship as the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) today decided to raise the registration fee by a further \u00c2\u014120.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Nurses, health visitors, midwives and specialist community nurses will now have to pay \u00c2\u0141120 every year in order to practise in the UK. Last year the fee increased from \u00c2\u014176 to \u00c2\u0141100.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The fee hike comes on top of more than five years of wage freezes.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bNurses have seen their pay eroded by up to 15 per cent in real terms since 2010,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 said Jane Beach, Unite professional officer. \u00e2\u20ac\u015bOur members feel they have been kicked in the teeth by the NMC, which pushed ahead with no regard for opposition.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>98 per cent said no<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In a consultation on fee increases 98 per cent of Unite members didn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t agree with the fee increase and the decision was made despite the fact that the NMC has almost \u00c2\u014110 million in its reserves.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s policy is that there should be a freeze on any fee hike until at least March 2016 \u00e2\u20ac\u201c and even then , any increase should be linked to the annual pay rise for NHS staff.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This morning Unite members greeted the NMC outside 23 Portland Place with a giant \u00c2\u014120 note which they cut in half to demonstrate their anger at the decision.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tax on jobs<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe protest was designed to drive home the depth of feeling that our members have on the fee hike,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 said Jane Beach. \u00e2\u20ac\u015bThey are still reeling from absorbing the last 32 per cent increase in the registration fee, which is, basically, a tax on jobs.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Those affected include health visitors, acute and mental health nurses, school nurses and midwives.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Britain\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s nurses face further financial hardship as the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) today decided to raise the registration fee by a further \u00c2\u014120. &nbsp; Nurses, health visitors, midwives and specialist community nurses will now have to pay \u00c2\u0141120 every year in order to practise in the UK.
