The workers who are paid just \u00c2\u01418.27 an hour were seeking a significant pay increase.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Following talks held at the conciliation service Acas last Thursday (December 13), Wilson James made an improved offer, which will result in staff receiving an additional \u00c2\u01411 an hour &#8212; an 8.5 per cent pay rise &#8212; and workers who don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t currently receive sick pay will receive it in the future.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite is conducting a postal ballot of its members with a recommendation to accept the pay offer.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite regional officer Jamie Major said,\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe talks last week were very positive and as a result the strikes planned for this week have been called off.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bOur members tasked Unite with getting a \u00c2\u01411 an hour pay increase and the union has delivered that for 2019,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe hardworking staff who are dedicated to assisting passengers who require special assistance at Gatwick airport have been undervalued for far too long.
