{"id":16925,"date":"2019-01-04T15:38:24","date_gmt":"2019-01-04T15:38:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=16925"},"modified":"2020-11-12T12:57:49","modified_gmt":"2020-11-12T12:57:49","slug":"east-anglia-print-firm-strike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=16925","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Shameful&#8217; pay freeze"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Print workers at Suffolk firm, CPI William Clowes, who have been given just two pay rises in the last 14 years, will take a third day of\u00c2\u00a0 strike action on Thursday,\u00c2\u00a0January 17.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The workers at the Beccles company will walk-out for 24 hours on January 17\u00c2\u00a0in their dispute over the company\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s offer of a two year pay freeze from April 2018.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite which has 75 members at the Copland Way site, said that the management had adamantly refused\u00c2\u00a0 to hold constructive talks since the workers last took a day\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s strike action on December 20.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe management at CPI William Clowes needs to recognise the continual hard work that our loyal members put in year in, year out,&#8221; said Unite regional officer Mark Walker. &#8220;The background to their legitimate pay grievances is that this dedicated workforce has only had two pay rises in the last 14 years.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThere was one per cent in 2017 and the previous one was about a decade ago,&#8221; he added. &#8220;It is a shameful indictment of this company which is part of the profitable CPI Group UK. The bosses have adamantly refused to engage in a constructive dialogue with Unite since the workers took a day\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s strike action just before Christmas.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bIf this antediluvian attitude to modern employment relations continues, more industrial action will definitely be on the cards.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The workers voted by 71 per cent for strike action and by 87 per cent for industrial action short of a strike.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>They have already taken two days of strike action \u00e2\u20ac\u201c in November and December \u00e2\u20ac\u201c and have a fourth day planned for February 13.
