{"id":1770,"date":"2014-10-08T16:37:45","date_gmt":"2014-10-08T15:37:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=1770"},"modified":"2014-10-08T16:37:45","modified_gmt":"2014-10-08T15:37:45","slug":"blackpool-airport-close","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=1770","title":{"rendered":"Blackpool Airport to close"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Blackpool Airport Limited, owners of Blackpool airport have announced that it is to close on Wednesday October 15.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Over 100 staff at the airport, including fire fighters, security, air traffic controllers and administration staff, are all set to lose their jobs.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bThe loss of 120 jobs in Blackpool will have a huge impact on local communities,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 said Dave Kennedy, Unite regional officer.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bIt is a major blow to the town, which is already struggling with high unemployment and a shortage of skilled or well-paid jobs.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The regional airport for Lancashire and the Lake District was only put up for sale in August. Since then Blackpool has been trying to find a buyer.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe are shocked and very disappointed,\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 added Dave Kennedy.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe can\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t believe Blackpool Airport\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s hasty decision to shut the airport next week.
