{"id":17754,"date":"2019-04-03T16:53:06","date_gmt":"2019-04-03T15:53:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=17754"},"modified":"2020-11-12T12:56:53","modified_gmt":"2020-11-12T12:56:53","slug":"assurances-flybe-flights-cancelled","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=17754","title":{"rendered":"Uncertainty &#8216;incredibly unsettling&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Unite which represents over 450 workers at regional airline Flybe is seeking to minimise job losses at Flybe and provide reassurances about the company\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s overall health after a clutch of flights were today (April 3) cancelled for \u00e2\u20ac\u0098operational reasons\u00e2\u20ac\u2122.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A total of 32 flights were cancelled from airports\u00c2\u00a0in Birmingham, Newcastle, Southampton, Belfast City, Aberdeen and Edinburgh, affecting about 1,000 customers.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Consultation talks are due to begin next week (April 10) on proposals by Flybe to place at risk of redundancy 38 pilots and 52 cabin crew. The redundancies are linked to Flybe\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s proposals to close both the Cardiff and Doncaster airbases from October 1, 2019.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bUnite is seeking to minimise the potential job losses and secure assurances about Flybe\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s long-term future,&#8221; said Unite regional officer Peter Coulson.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bOur members are justifiably concerned about their jobs and future employment, as a result of the company cancelling a number of flights for \u00e2\u20ac\u0098operational reasons\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 and having launched a redundancy programme.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bIt is essential that Flybe is fully transparent with its workforce about the exact situation facing the company. The current uncertainty is incredibly unsettling and is in danger of severely damaging morale at the company.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In January Flybe was purchased for \u00c2\u01412.2 million by a consortium of Virgin Atlantic and the Stobart Group.
