{"id":17792,"date":"2019-04-10T16:45:19","date_gmt":"2019-04-10T15:45:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/unitelive.org\/?p=17792"},"modified":"2020-11-12T12:56:52","modified_gmt":"2020-11-12T12:56:52","slug":"mitie-city-airport-ballot-pay-offer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unitelive.test.igniteamt.com\/?p=17792","title":{"rendered":"Mitie City Airport staff balloted"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>Unite members employed by controversial outsourcer Mitie at London\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s City Airport are being balloted on an offer to pay the London living wage (LLW) from\u00c2\u00a0July 1.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unite which represents 32 security guards and those providing assistance to workers with mobility issues, said today (April 10) that its members were being balloted on Mitie\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s new offer of paying the LLW, currently \u00c2\u014110.55 an hour, from July 1\u00c2\u00a0this year.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>However, Unite warned that the offer, which came after its members had voted unanimously for industrial action, does not address all the members\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 concerns, which include improved sick pay, adequate rest break facilities and recognition of Unite for collective bargaining purposes.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bYesterday (April 9) Unite received confirmation from the Mitie regional manager at the London City Airport that the LLW would be paid to workers from 1 July, after they threatened strike action,&#8221; said Unite regional officer Michelle Cook.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe will ballot our members on this new offer as this proposal does not address all our members\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 legitimate concerns.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe are aware that GMB has sole recognition at Mitie\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s operations based at London City Airport, however, Unite represents nearly 60 per cent of the workforce who were balloted for industrial action.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Mitie is currently embroiled in two other industrial disputes with Unite members across the UK.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>At the Sellafield nuclear reprocessing centre in Cumbria, security guards, and catering, vending and laundry operatives are due to strike over pay for 10 days starting on\u00c2\u00a0April 19.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>At Southampton General Hospital, security guards employed by Mitie have already taken a day\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s strike action over lack of protective equipment as they are regularly attacked by those under the influence of drink and drugs or with mental health problems.
