Tory leadership hopeful Boris Johnson has pledged to cut taxes for the better off by increasing the 40p threshold from \u00c2\u014150,000 to \u00c2\u014180,000, in a shameless bid to \u00e2\u20ac\u015bbribe\u00e2\u20ac\u0165 wealthy Conservative Party members into picking him for PM.<\/p>\n

Unite condemned the move, saying \u00e2\u20ac\u015bthere are many more urgent priorities for the UK than one rich man feather-bedding his already rich friends\u00e2\u20ac\u0165.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Raising the threshold would benefit around 3m higher earners by \u00c2\u0141155 a week or \u00c2\u01416,000 a year.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Johnson told the Telegraph, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bWe should be raising thresholds of income tax \u00e2\u20ac\u201c so that we help the huge numbers that have been captured in the higher rate by fiscal drag.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The tax cut would cost around \u00c2\u01419.6bn annually and would be paid in part by savings from no-deal Brexit preparations, Johnson said.<\/p>\n

Despite the UK having one of the developed world\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s lowest rates of corporation tax, Johnson also said that \u00e2\u20ac\u015bwe should be cutting business taxes\u00e2\u20ac\u0165.<\/p>\n

Referencing Johnson\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s comments about having been given cocaine \u00e2\u20ac\u0098which may have been icing sugar\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 as a student, Unite assistant general secretary Steve Turner said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bIt\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s not what Johnson has or hasn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t put up his nose that shocks.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u015bWhen there\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s record levels of child poverty, food bank use, homelessness and an NHS in crisis, it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s this vile man\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s bribes of his rich friends in pursuit of power that really disgusts me.\u00e2\u20ac\u0165<\/p>\n

Other Tory leadership hopefuls have also pledged to cut taxes as they attempt to appeal to the Conservative Party\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s 160,000 members, who will vote for the next prime minister from a shortlist of two candidates chosen by the party\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s MPs.<\/p>\n

Shadow chancellor John McDonnell said, \u00e2\u20ac\u015bExactly as predicted, the Tory leadership race is degenerating into a race to the bottom in tax cuts.<\/p>\n
